We finally rendezvoused with Vinh in Da Nang. Vinh's father is the pastor of Tin Lanh, the only government-sanctioned Protestant church in Viet Nam. Tin Lanh has about 800 members, offers four different services on Sundays -- and we attended every one, and met many wonderful people.
Vinh faces many challenges in returning to Viet Nam to minister. Because of his youth in a culture that still values age and experience, Vinh must pay his dues and wait his turn before he is entrusted with a position of church leadership. But Vinh still feels that God has called him to Viet Nam.
We also visited a church in a poor rural area outside of Da Nang called Binh Que. Through Vinh, FPC Downey had helped Binh Que church repair typhoon damage to their facilities. The children of Binh Que greatly appreciated the gifts we brought on our visit.
Binh Que remains a church in great need.
Officially named Ho Chi Minh City, most people still call it Sai Gon.
